Handheld Scanners, Personal Scanners and Scales
Laser Scanners project a single line with which to scan barcodes. (Laser scanners are good for Retail and Rugged environments. Laser scanners are good with closely grouped barcodes. Laser scanners CANNOT read off of computer screens or mobile phone screens).
Linear Imagers are 1D scanners like the laser scanners, however there are no moving parts in the scan engine which makes them less likely to break than a laser scanner. (Linear imagers are good in retail and rugged environments and CAN scan off computer screens and mobile phones).
Area Imagers are the 2D scanners. (These imagers are good in retail or rugged and they take a sort of picture of the barcode to decode it. These scanners are a little more difficult in situations where barcodes are close together. Area Imagers CAN scan off computer screens and mobile phones).
